Every year, Emily’s Path tries to bring joy and hope to children whose families may be facing challenges during the holiday season. Over the years, we’ve donated thousands of holiday gifts through various organizations. One of the most impactful events we participated in was the Women’s Community’s “Christmas Wishes” program. Emily’s Path fulfilled the Christmas gift wish lists for dozens of individuals through the Women’s Community — victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, trafficking, or subjected to emotional, mental, or physical abuse and their children. While many of us associate the holiday season with joy and family gatherings, the holidays can be a particularly difficult time for survivors of domestic abuse. Studies indicate that domestic violence incidents tend to increase during the holiday season. Factors such as financial stress, increased alcohol consumption, and family pressures contribute to this spike. The holidays can also exacerbate the isolation that many survivors feel, making it even more challenging for them to seek help. The Women’s Community gives abuse victims the resources they need to navigate a path to a healthier, happier life year-round. However, giving children hope for this life is equally important — during the holidays and throughout the year — because it can help them cope with and recover from the trauma they incur as a result of their relationship with their parent’s abusers.

The gifts we purchased with your donations — each one fulfilling a specific request and lovingly wrapped by our volunteers — were received with joy and gratitude. Many recipients sent hand-written thank you notes, some of which we are sharing below, because YOU are the reason we are able to do this.

“We are eternally grateful for making us feel like a part of your family this holiday season. You did such a beautiful job and made us feel so loved. Thank you for making us feel loved & safe. You reminded us that there are still good people in this world.”
“Thank you so much for the lovely gifts. I was so touched that someone thought of me. I really appreciate your generosity.”
“Thank you for helping my family during this difficult time! We are very thankful to you. ” (all of the i’s were dotted with hearts ❤)
